Murud Janjira – 20.6 kms
En route to Murud Janjira (after the Revdanda Bridge) explore the Light house at Korlai and the Portuguese Fort overlooking the bay. You may stop by at Nandgaon’s Ganpati Temple (15 kms before Murud Janjira) and get Lord Ganesh’s blessings. You can also drive up to Idgah, the highest point of Murud Janjira, and watch the brilliant sunset. Take a sailboat to Janjira Fort from Rajpuri Jetty (4 kms from Murud Janjira) and explore the 500 year old fort in the sea. Take a sail boat to Kasa Fort (Shivaji’s fort) (1.5 hrs sailing time one way). If you like to fish, hire a sailboat for a fishing trip from Rajpuri Jetty. You can explore the 2000 year old Buddhist Caves near Bhalgaon (20 kms from Murud Janjira). Rent a bicycle and discover Murud Janjira town, the oldest municipality in India developed by the Nawab more than 100 years ago, with its own electricity, water supply, drainage and roads. Take a walk on the beach in the mornings and do Surya Namaskar or play a game of cricket in the evening. Experience a Horse Buggy ride around Murud Janjira.
Kashid Beach – 21.8 kms
The Kashid Beach Resort is located just off Kashid Beach on the Konkan Belt, 30 kms from Alibaug and 135 kms from Mumbai. Kashid is reputed to have one of the best beaches on Konkan belt. These beaches are normally uninhabited during weekdays and only sparsely inhabited during weekends.
Alibaug Beach – 33.3 kms
Alibaug is an idyllic town on the western coast of India. It lies on almost the same latitude as the southern tip of Mumbai and is very easily accessible by a road and sea. Just a three-hour drive from Mumbai, the Alibaug Fort and its beaches are a tourist attraction. Alibag is a frequent getaway for people in Mumbai with many owning farmhouses off the beach. The launch from Mumbai makes it closer although during the monsoons, although a boat ride to the town is not advisable then.
